Males have a white and black nuchal cape, a red crest, a white belly and chest, a dark green back, blue and brown wings, and a yellow rump. Females have mottled brown plumage.
Lady Amherst's pheasants are polygynous and do not form monogamous pairs.
Lady Amherst’s pheasant performs an impressive ritual dance that highlights the vibrant colors of its feathers. While capable of flight, it typically prefers to run when threatened, only taking to the air when startled or when heading to a tree branch to roost.
