Join us at the zoo for a day of traditional African song and dance! Musicians will be performing live, original music through out the day.

Sista Dee
Steel Pan

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Sista Dee started touring with her father at the age of 13, playing worldwide, she also won the panorama competition 8 times.  As an arranger, Sista Dee currently is the leader of the “Dis n Dat” band, and also tours with them.  Sista Dee spends her winters touring the Caribbean and South America on cruise ships.

Alpha Kabinet “Kabisko”  & WOFA Members – Pioneer Valley Performing Arts
Dancing, acting, drumming and singing

Kabisko is originally from Guinea, Conakry, West Africa with more than 28 years professional dance experience. Kabisko came to the U.S. in 1998 with his world renowned dance company, Les Merveille de Guinea, debuting in New York and touring throughout the U.S.A. for many years. many years.  Presently, Kabisko has been teaching at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts (PVPA) Charter School in South Hadley, MA. Over the years the WOFA company has been a family to roughly one hundred budding artists and continues to be a source of inspiration for the next generations of PVPA artists

to learn about the rich artistic culture of Western Africa. Wofa is a word from the Sousou language of Guinea which means “lets get together,” and that is what WOFA hopes their performances will allow its greater community to do.

NEO Raggae

Formed in 1999 by four time grammy nominated Black uhuru Drummer ‘Rangotan and six time steel pan champion Sista Dee, Dis n Dat band has a unique sound, setting them apart from all the rest, incorporating roots reggae dance hall and r&b in to a sound of their own…’NEO REGGAE’ moving audiences all over the U.S.

Gaia Roots

Gaia Roots performs a high energy show and offers workshops of folklore style music from around the world including, Africa, Cuba, Haiti and the Americas.  Playing with traditional percussion instrumentation, soaring vocal harmonies and vibrant dances, Gaia Roots has captivated audiences all over the globe and performed Festivals with 80,000 in attendance.   Gaia Roots have just released their new CD “Mother Drum”.  Gaia Roots performs as a 6 piece ensemble or 9 pieces with drum, bass and guitar back line.
