Did you know?

  • Scarlet macaws range from southern Mexico into the Amazon Basin. They are the national bird of Honduras.
  • Although they are very popular as pets, macaws can be difficult to care for. They are intelligent and require considerable amounts of interaction. They are also very loud, messy, and can be destructive.
  • Scarlet macaws often gather at clay licks. It is believed that they ingest clay in order to get sodium and other minerals. Clay may also help their bodies better digest certain foods they eat.
